Google penalties are the biggest fear of any blogger. So here’s what they consist of, how to avoid them, and how to solve them.

With the new Google updates, sites that are considered to be of low quality or that try to acquire more traffic by implementing the so-called Black Hat SEO techniques are penalized.

But what does it mean? It means that Google deletes your site – or part of its content – from its SERP. You will no longer appear in search results and this inevitably means a site with no organic traffic.

In fact, we usually notice a penalty when we open the Google Analytics dashboard and notice a sharp drop in traffic. However, this may not always be an indication of a penalty but it can also depend on the seasonality of your keywords.

And if you think that Google penalties are something uncommon, you are very wrong. Even the big names of the web have been affected, from the BBC to the Washington Post.

But we will talk about all this in this article. I will show you how to recognize a Google penalty, how to avoid it, and to overcome it. You will discover all the penalties that you can run into. I will explain how to identify if a drop in traffic is due to a Google penalty or other factors. But, first, lets answer the main question: What are Google penalties?

What are Google penalties?

Google penalties are actions to the detriment of the positioning of a website that Google takes when the so-called Quality Standards are broken.

The quality standards describe illegal practices that may involve the complete removal of a site from the Google Index or a manual or algorithmic anti-spam action on the site. If a site has been subjected to an anti-spam action, it may no longer be displayed in the results of Google.com or on any Google partner site.

Google
what are google penalties and how to avoid them

Why is a site penalized by Google?

There are many reasons why a website is penalized by Google. The most common are link selling, spam or security issues due to a hacked site.

Sometimes you are aware of and perform these actions. Such as strategies that aim to trick the algorithms in order to be able to position your site faster and acquire more traffic in a shorter time (Black-hat).

Other times, however, these actions are completely unexpected and happen for example when your SEO is of poor quality or when your website is hacked.

What Are the Types of Google penalties

There are mainly two types of penalties:

  • manual actions
  • algorithmic penalties.

Manual actions are actions taken deliberately by Google. They are reported in the Search Console and mainly concern SPAM.

The algorithmic penalties, on the other hand, are not reported and are not always real penalties. They concern the adjustments of the search results based on the updates of the Google algorithms.

Manual actions or SPAM actions

spam

Manual actions are sanctions that a team of Google specialists inflicts on a site that has violated the rules on its website and mainly concern spam.

There are 12 penalties that can be incurred:

  1. Spam generated by users
  2. The free host containing spam
  3. Structured data problem
  4. Unnatural links that lead to your site
  5. Non-natural links from your site
  6. Lean content with little or no added value
  7. Cloaking and/or redirect commands not allowed
  8. Pure spam
  9. Compromised images
  10. Hidden text and/or excess keyword usage
  11. AMP page content discrepancies
  12. Redirect commands not allowed on mobile devices.

If your site has suffered any of these penalties, it will be reported to you under the Security & Manual Actions> Manual Actions tab in your Google Search Console.

But let’s take a closer look at these types of penalties and find out how to prevent and resolve them.

Spam generated by users

User-generated spam mainly affects spam found in blog comments and forum threads.

The best way to counter this type of penalty is to prevent and eliminate all spam on your site. Especially with regards to blog comments, there are many ways to do this. Starting from manually approving comments to installing special plugins, such as Akismet.

Personally, I use both ways. If you try to leave a comment, it is not automatically approved but goes through moderation.

I constantly monitor the comments.

Free host containing spam

Very often I have talked about the importance of investing in a good hosting plan. This is not only to be able to keep the site clean and fast but also because most free hosts contain spam.

In this case, the advice is to move your site to paid hosting.

Structured data problem

If you want to change the structured data of your blog. This will guarantee better ranking, but the important thing is to do it properly.

Google can in fact penalize you if you use:

  • markup of content not visible to users
  • markup of irrelevant or misleading content
  • other manipulative behavior.

So, if you want your site to appear in Google search results, you need to make sure your site’s markup follows Google’s structured data guidelines.

“Unnatural” links to your site

backlinks

Backlinks, or other sites that link to our website, are very important for the growth of a blog. The basic mechanism is very simple: if many people mention your article, it means that they found your content particularly interesting.

Something, in fact, that deserves to be mentioned and disseminated.

Google, therefore, considers backlinks as a positive sign from the web and tends to reward your content. Because of this, backlinks have become a ranking factor.

What happened then? Too many people have started doing link exchanges. There are even container sites (Web Directory) that in exchange for a fee or a subscription, insert a backlink on their sites that refers to your website.

However, Google has continued to evolve constantly to face all these falsifying techniques. Google manages to intercept all those backlinks that are not natural but created with the express purpose of manipulating PageRank.

Choosing the right websites is important to make Google understand that we are not spammers. If you have a travel site, a link from a site dealing with refrigerators is not ideal. Google wonders why.

⚠ But did you know that even your competitors can send you spam backlinks to harm you?

Your competitors can damage all your website with an attack of negative SEO. What is it about? Very simple.

It consists of sending you numerous backlinks (hundreds) from spam sites so that Google interprets that your site is also of low quality, penalizing you.

Hacked sites

Getting hacked is the worst thing that can happen to your site (and your business!). It’s one of those delightful cases where you can get two beatings instead of one. Hackers damaging your site and Google penalizing you.

In this case, the best advice is always to protect your site. Unfortunately, very few people do it.

Here are some tips to protect the site:

  • always keep the plugins updated: they are the easiest gateway to a site
  • never use the name “admin” for access
  • create a strong password (“B $ 6q2cwxfbd ^” is a strong password. “Admin”, “12345A” or “password” are not strong passwords!)
  • use a hosting that invests in security such as Siteground.

Non-natural links from your site

The same thing that goes for inbound links applies to outbound links. If your blog is of quality, Google expects you will always link quality resources, which are useful insights for your users.

If your links are on spam or low-value sites, Google may penalize you. So watch out for the resources you recommend.

Never accept link exchange requests and do not participate in link schemes. Let your blog always grow slower, gradual but lasting.

What are Google penalties for lean content with little or no added value

What Google expects is that every new content on the web is original and brings added value.

If it has these characteristics, it is easy for your article to rank high on the SERP. If it does not have them, in addition to not positioning you could be penalized.

So what are the contents that could make you fall into oblivion?

  • Automatically generated content, such as texts translated from other languages without editing or those generated via RSS feeds
  • Articles with affiliate programs with no added content, such as a tutorial or detailed review
  • Contents of other sites.
  • Doorway pages, ie pages created ad hoc to be in the first search results and “catch clicks” but which then refer to other pages.

Cloaking and/or redirect commands

Cloaking is a technique used to present users with a link other than the one presented to Google.

Put very simplistically, it is a deceptive technique to make readers believe they are clicking on something that instead leads to something else.

Pure spam

If your site is flagged by Google as a spam container, be prepared to sink into the search engine’s oblivion.

To be considered spam, it is enough to violate one or more of the rules described so far. No more, no less.

Compromised images

Also in this case we are talking about cloaking, no longer about the text but about images. What users see is what search engines need to see. There must be no hidden images to generate fraudulent clicks.

Simple and concise.

Hidden text and/or excessive use of keywords

An old Black Hat SEO technique that used to work damn well and is now penalized, is keyword stuffing. It is cramming the content (or the whole page) of keywords with the goal of increasing keyword density.

Even more deceptive is when the keywords are written in the same color as the background. As if for example now I started writing a list of related keywords but in white color. You on the screen would not be able to read them but Google would.

This technique is called hidden text, and this is also a very forbidden practice.

AMP page content discrepancies

This is when an AMP page is different from the canonical page.

In this case, Google will de-index the AMP pages while leaving the canonical ones of your website visible.

Redirect commands not allowed on mobile devices

The last of the Google Commandments is: never lead users to a site other than the one shown on mobile devices.

Algorithmic penalties

If you ask the average person “what are google penalties?”, their answer would probably gravitate towards manual penalties. Another type of penalty that I would like to bring to light is called “algorithmic penalty”. These are not Google’s manual actions but are a natural consequence of Google’s algorithms which change constantly.

This type of penalty is more difficult to intercept since not being a manual action, no notification from Google takes place.

But what does an algorithmic penalty consist of? In practice, the Google algorithm, as has happened several times in 2020, is updated and you realize that your site has lost ranking and consequently traffic.

Traffic is one of the main signs that can indicate an algorithmic penalty. To check this, just go to Google Analytics and compare the data of the last few weeks with those of the previous weeks. If you notice a major drop, then you are probably a “victim” of a penalty.

How to know if my site has been penalized by Google?

As for the manual actions, you will receive an email with the notification of the penalty. You can also check on the Google Search Console. Just go to the menu on the left and click on Safety and manual actions> Manual actions.

For algorithmic penalties, I recommend using Google Analytics or Semrush.

Generally, a minor manual penalty is eliminated as soon as it is resolved.

For serious violations, however, such as those concerning pure spam, the site is permanently banned from the Google indexes.

If your website (wide-site matches) or some content on your blog (partial matches) has been penalized with a manual action, through Search Console you can submit a review request once you have cleaned and rearranged the offending content.

Once this is done, you just have to wait and hope that the Google team will accept your changes and reposition the penalized content in SERP.

Why doesn’t my site appear on Google?

Before concluding this long study on Google’s penalties, I would like to examine another situation that happens.

There are no manual reports, there have been no algorithmic penalties but you have suffered a sharp drop in traffic which may also have made your site disappear from the SERP.

What happened?

First, you need to check. Open the Google homepage and search for the site: your domain. extension, for example, site: dailymoneytree.net.

If there are any results (the first should be the homepage of your site) then it is a drop in traffic but the site is indexed.

If there are no results, enter the WordPress dashboard and in the left menu go to Settings> Reading and check that the Discourage search engines from indexing this site box is not selected.

Here are some possible reasons why your site does not appear on Google:

  • layout change: if you have redesigned your website, perhaps by installing a new template or because you have switched from a template to Elementor, then you may see a sharp drop in traffic. Don’t worry: the site will reposition itself in a month or two if there are no errors
  • Seasonality: If you propose seasonal topics, you will likely notice trends. For example, an article on how to take beautiful photos of the sea will surely have a peak of visits in the summer months
  • Robots.txt file errors: If you set the Robots.txt file incorrectly, you may have blocked some pages from crawling. In this case, better take a look.

Conclusion

This was probably not one of the most fun articles you have read. But, my main goal was to explain what are google penalties, and how to avoid them.

I hope that if you have had a penalty, this guide has helped you solve the problem. Or, even better, I hope that reading this article has helped you to clarify the practices prohibited by Google so that you never get penalized.

I’ll give one last piece of advice, the best I can give you. Before thinking about how to generate an entry from your blog, how to get more traffic, how to SEO, think about who reads you. Offer added value and don’t write content just to “capture the keyword”.

To your success.

After years of blogging, here’s a list of things I wish I had known before starting a blog. Make good use of it!

I have been blogging for many years. I have opened and closed dozens of blogs, I have failed miserably many projects but I have also created and developed successful blogs with millions of visitors.

But success did not come overnight, suddenly.

I have tried, tested, made mistakes, learned, optimized.

Many do not know that to create a blog and be able to monetize it, it is not enough just to write. In fact, there are many other aspects to take into consideration to be successful. And the results often don’t come immediately.

Many people, when they start a blog for the first time, don’t know what to expect, don’t understand what it means to be a full-time blogger, don’t understand how to get traffic, and most of all they can’t make money – or earn enough to make a living from blogging.

And they tend to get discouraged immediately, abandoning the project and letting the blog die.

So if you are new to this world, I want to share with you these 21 things I would have liked to know before starting a blog, so that you too can have a clear idea of what it means to be a blogger and with the hope that you too can develop a successful business.

21 things I wish I had known before starting a blog

After years and years of blogging, I’ve gathered the most important things I’ve learned.

These are the same things I wanted to know years ago when I started taking my first steps in the world of blogging.

So here are my tips for my past me. And of course, for you.

starting a blog

1-Running blogs is challenging

It seems obvious but many people, when they open a blog, do not realize the commitment it takes to make it work.

Because blogging is a real job, a small (but sometimes also large) company. And you can’t think of working for your company one hour a week if you want it to work, right?

The good thing is that you can start working on your blog in your spare time and dedicate more and more time to it as the blog – and the income – grows. In fact, almost all of us bloggers started working on our blogs in our spare time, together with another activity, as a side business.

But why does having a blog take so long? Isn’t it enough to write your own articles? Well no, not if you want to make it your main traffic source.

In fact, it is necessary to invest a lot of time not only in writing the articles, but also in their optimization, in search of images, in SEO, in promotion.

And if you are alone, you will also have to become the one-man-band of all related activities: you will have to think about customer care, take care of email marketing, promote yourself on social media and build relationships with media and other bloggers.

However, there are two positive notes: the first is that many of these activities can be automated. In fact, there are many tools for bloggers that can help you complete your tasks automatically, just think of Conversion.ai, the artificial intelligence that writes your blog articles for you.

The second is that as soon as your blog starts to bring you a stable income, you can make use of collaborators to delegate all the operational parts of this process.

Being a full-time blogger requires a lot of commitment, mental strength and continuous work. Be persevering!

2-Plan less and act more

Many times I have talked about how important planning is. And I repeat: planning is fundamental.

But sometimes it happens that we focus so much on planning that all the operational work takes a back seat.

You know when you turn on Netflix and start watching all the movies available for hours without deciding which one to watch? The same thing often happens with blogging.

There are so many activities to be carried out that we often get lost in planning details without ever starting to act.

Start with a summary plan, roll your sleeves up and begin the operational phase. Gradually, your plan will become more and more detailed but in the meantime, you will have laid the foundations for a blog capable of working.

3-Always address a topic you love

Over the years, I have never dealt with one and only one project. I have opened and closed dozens of blogs, others I have totally abandoned to themselves.

Why did I do it? Maybe they weren’t earning enough?

Well no. I’ve created blogs that keep bringing me automatic entries every month but have been abandoned for years now. The real reason is that the love for the topic I was talking about in those blogs is over.

Dealing with a topic you are passionate about ensures that you always want to write and work for that project.

You will never get up in the morning puffing because you don’t want to work on that blog. You will get out of bed full of energy because you have a cool idea that you can’t wait to put into practice.

What if the passion ends?

Just like when love ends. Let’s put our souls in peace: it was good while it lasted but it has to end.

When the passion ends, find a new love.

4-Passion is not everything

If you take a tour of digital marketing blogs, you will see that most of these web gurus will tell you to follow your passions. Create a business on your passions! Monetize your passions!

And it is here that most of the new bloggers – deluded by being able to work exclusively following their passions – fail.

And guess what? That’s right, they abandon the blog.

Let me tell you the truth: passion is fundamental, it’s true. But it is not everything

If we focus exclusively on our passions, we lose a fundamental component to create a successful blog: monetization.

The good news is that we can often monetize a passion.

If your passion is to carve corks … well, in this case it seems a bit more complex to be able to monetize your blog.

In order not to fall into that 90% of failed blogs around the web, it is therefore essential to be able to generate stable economic income. And to do this, it is important to think of your blog as a company and not simply as a passion.

Do not start a blog for passion but for business, if you want to make a profit. And if the topic is about your passion, then the chances of success are certainly higher.

5-Do not stop investing in yourself

Even if continuous training is important in any job, this is more true in digital jobs, where change is fast and constant.

Just think about changes in Google’s algorithms, users’ search trends on search engines, new tools, and their updates, Facebook changes, market fluctuations.

If we don’t constantly update ourselves, we will always be one step behind. And staying one step behind means having a blog doomed to fail.

If you don’t grow, you stagnate.

6-Acquire soft skills

We have already mentioned that having a successful blog does not only mean writing. You need to have a number of skills.

Which? Here are the ones that in my opinion are indispensable:

  • Leadership
  • Empathy
  • Web writing
  • SEO
  • Copywriting
  • Digital marketing.

Start working on your soft skills right away.

7-Always create the best content possible

Nowadays, where the competition is very high. Being able to capture and keep attention is not easy.

If you really want to differentiate yourself from everything already out there, your content has to be better than everyone else’s. For this you must be able to:

  • Place your articles in the top Google search results so people can find you. You can do this by putting these SEO copywriting techniques into practice.
  • Create engaging and super effective content that keeps the reader glued to the screen.

And how can we create better content than everyone else? Here are some tips:

  • Before you start writing, do your research and read everything that has been published on that subject. How can you improve that content? What information can be further developed? Which ones are now outdated?
  • Offer true value. Create truly useful content that truly helps your readers solve a problem or find answers to their doubts and questions
  • Don’t stop at the numbers of keyword research, also develop topics that don’t have satisfying search volumes but that can help your readers.
  • An example? Just this article. Nobody searches on Google for “Things I would have liked to know before starting a blog” but I’m sure that this topic will still be able to help those approaching the world of blogging.

Always create the best content possible – and constantly optimize it over time.

8-Don’t seek perfection

And here comes a sore point. In fact, I would not like to give this advice only to me of the past but also – and above all – to me of the present.

Unfortunately I suffer a little from delusions of perfectionism.

Just finished an article, but… “I could replace that image, improve that title, fix that sentence”.

No, No, NO!

This is just wasting precious time, not optimizing. I know, I often keep falling into this trap and I am perfectly aware of it.

Write your article and publish it. Give Google a way to find and index it. You always have time to fix and optimize it.

And the same is true when you launch a product. If you keep making it perfect, you’ll never publish it. So don’t look for perfection. Act now!

Do not always pursue perfection because you risk delaying action. Do it first, then optimize!

9-Results don’t come right away

Creating a blog, writing a couple of articles and getting it all online is a breeze. Creating a successful blog that allows you to put a few thousand dollars a month in your pocket is not so simple.

If you have chosen a profitable niche, working on your blog with a method, strategy, and consistency, it is practically impossible not to obtain excellent results. But to achieve this goal, a few days are not enough, sometimes not even a few months.

So if you want to start earning quickly, maybe it’s best if you start thinking about other jobs you can do online. If, on the other hand, you want a slow but gradual climb, then blogging is undoubtedly the path you are looking for.

Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient, constant, give your best and don’t give up. The results will come.

10-Building relationships is more important than monetizing

A fundamental aspect of blogging is to build stable and truthful relationships with your readers.

How do you build relationships with blog readers? Here are some tips:

  • Always write in a simple and conversational way.
  • Make your readers feel special and pampered.
  • Ask your audience questions, make them feel involved.
  • Don’t just write to your readers when you want to sell them something.
  • Offer extra content to newsletter subscribers.
  • Create a group or forum where the community can talk and discuss.
  • Interact with your users. Reply to their emails, on social media, and especially on blog comments.

Always create stable and lasting relationships with your readers.

11-Build a list

One of the most important tips that I would like to give to me at the beginning is to create a contact list from day zero.

If you don’t have one yet, then start right away because you are seriously leaving a lot of money on the pot.

There are several tools you can use, such as ActiveCampaign, Aweber, GetResponse, or Sendinblue. For this blog, for example, I use GetResponse.

Start building list right away, it will be your greatest source of monetization.

12-Learn to organize your day

Another huge problem that I had to learn to deal with is time management and work organization.

Yes, because when you are freelance you have a million things to do and it is easy to get confused, to find jobs overlapping, or to give the wrong priorities to our projects.

If we also put in the various personal commitments, the house to fix, and maybe some small children to keep up with, the road to psychiatry is paved.

Personally, I found this system very effective: routine, planning and relaxation.

Create routines, plan your goals and take the time to take care of yourself and the people you love.

13-Treat your blog like a business and not a hobby

If you treat your blogging as a hobby, then it will forever remain a hobby.
If you treat it as a business, it will become your company.

So if you want your blog to become your number one source of income, start thinking like an entrepreneur and not a writer. It’s sad to say, I know, especially for people who love writing.

Treat your blog like a business if you want it to become your main source of income.

14-Reinvest what you earn

This is another thing that I would have liked to know before starting a blog.

Especially when you start earning the first bucks, the excitement is great and the desire to go and spend them is even greater.

And this is because they told you that you can create a blog at no cost (or almost). And this is true. But to bring it to success you will have to invest time and money.

So, if you want your blog to really take the leap in quality, grit your teeth and reinvest the earnings. You will then have time to enjoy the results of your work.

Don’t spend all your earnings. Reinvest them in your blog.

15-Union is strength

Alone, you can’t go far. Building relationships must be one of your top priorities when deciding to work full-time on a blog.

And it’s not just a social issue but this approach will help you rank better on search engines and get more traffic to your website.

One of the best known and most effective ways of establishing relationships with other bloggers is that of guest posting, that is, writing articles for other blogs.

In this way you will not only have the opportunity to socialize, enrich your professional network and find new collaborations, but you will also develop skills and knowledge that no training course will ever offer you.

Create strong relationships with other bloggers and professionals in your industry.

16-Create clear and specific goals

At the beginning, when dealing with a new blog, we are literally overwhelmed by ideas, things to do, things to study. And we start creating our blog a little off the cuff, as we like. A page there, a small article here.

But the blog is never an end: it is always a means. And a means for what? To achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

Creating a long, medium, and short-term goal plan is key to making the blog work.

So what are the goals you want to achieve with your blog? And how long do you want to reach them? Write them down on a piece of paper (or use a concept map) and start creating lots of little tasks to help you get closer and closer to what you want.

Set your goals and create lots of small tasks to achieve them.

17-Choose your niche well

We may have had an illumination, an incredible idea. But if we target the wrong niche, then our idea won’t be successful anyway.

And how to choose the right niche?

There are 6 questions you should ask yourself to understand this:

  • Do you really have an interest in this niche?
  • Are you really competent on the subject?
  • Will people willing to pay?
  • What is the number of competitors?
  • How many searches are done on Google?
  • Is your niche durable?

Once you have asked yourself these questions, take a look at this content and find out what are the answers you should have gotten.

Choose the right niche.

18-Start with what you have

Starting small is not a shame, quite the contrary.

Quite often people write to me saying they don’t have enough time / money / ideas / knowledge to get started.

You don’t need to start working on the blog 8 hours a day, and you don’t need more than $20 to start. Ideas for new articles come along the way, knowledge can be learned slowly.

It is normal to be insecure at first. Don’t be held back by what you don’t have but start with what you have. I assure you that an internet connection is more than enough to get started. You don’t have to do or have everything right away.

Start small, with what you have. You can always improve along the way.

19-Always be yourself

When you start your blog, it is important to show your readers who you are, especially if you have a personal blog, which bears your name.

Don’t ask for permission to express your ideas, find your style, your tone of voice and don’t be afraid to say what you think.

And above all have fun. Having a blog is hard work but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to have fun, does it?

Don’t compare yourself to others but be inspired by them. Bring out your weaknesses and highlight your strengths. Don’t be ashamed of who you are and let your inner light shine.

20-Failure is a good thing

I don’t know about you but I have always experienced failure really badly. Perhaps because where I’m from, failure is seen as a fault, something to be ashamed of.

But it is enough to move a little further in the world to discover how failure is instead seen as an opportunity.

In fact, there are many stories of successful companies born from a failure, such as Ford or Nintendo. Even Steve Jobs was fired from his own company.

When we start over after a failure we have an amount of information, experience and knowledge that was unthinkable when starting out. Don’t be afraid to fail, then, but turn every negative element into a strength.

Never be afraid of failing.

21-Dealing with haters

When the haters start coming, it’s not nice. We feel personally attacked and our self-esteem is affected.

But let me tell you: haters are pathetic, not worth keeping up with. On the contrary: when the haters start coming, it often means that you are going in the right direction! 😄

So don’t let yourself be ruined by those who attack you just for the fun of it.

Think about this: if a gift is given to you and you accept it, whose gift is it? Right, it’s yours. But if you are given a gift and you don’t accept it, who is the owner of that gift? That’s right, the owner remains the one who gave you the gift.

With hater comments, it’s exactly the same. Do not let yourself be discouraged, continue on your way, and always give your best.

So, this is the list of 21 things I wish I knew before starting a blog. They are not rocket science. Most of it is just common sense. Just try to cover at least 50% of the things I listed and I’m sure everything will be ok.

Your successes will not be long in coming!

To your success!

In order to make the best out of your blog, you will need the best plugins for a blog in 2021. Think of it as using the best possible fuel recommended by the manufacturer of your car. Other fuels will make your car run, but the best fuel will make it perform best.

Since WordPress is open-source, in order to fully customize your website and improve performance you need some plugins that you need to install.

But what exactly are plugins?

Plugins are simply tools, programs, which are installed on WordPress to extend its functionality.

I’ll give you an example.

Basically, WordPress doesn’t have a feature that allows your contacts to book an appointment with you directly from your website. This is where plugins come in handy.

You can in fact search and install a plugin that allows this function, in order to integrate it on your site and allow your contacts to book an appointment.

There are thousands of different plugins with thousands of different functions based on the goals you want to accomplish. However, I advise you not to install too many plugins because they would make your site much slower and could conflict with each other, not allowing WordPress to work correctly.

To install a plugin, just go to the WordPress menu and click on Plugins> Add new.

best plugins for a blog

Here are the 5 “basic” plugins that can help you improve the performance of your site.

Best SEO PLugin: Yoast SEO or Rank Math

SEO plugin
Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO, as well as Rank Math, are two of the best plugins for a blog of every WordPress site that will allow you to optimize your website from an SEO point of view. Either of these 2 will help you improve the articles you write so that they have a better chance of positioning themselves in Google’s top positions. Alongside keyword research and off-page optimization, SEO plugins are what will mean the difference between being a known brand, or just a link on Google’s page 7.

You can also use them to manage sitemaps, robots.txt files, page titles and meta descriptions.

Since they have more or less the same features, you will only need to install one. I personally use Yoast SEO for my projects but many of my clients use Rank Math instead.

Best page builder plugin: Elementor PRO

Elementor is hands down the best WordPress page builder plugin. It allows you to build and completely customize all the pages of your blog.

I used Elementor to build this blog.

This plugin has drag-and-drop functionality, meaning you can directly move items on the screen and place them wherever you like. It is one of the simplest plugins to use to build pages from scratch, especially if – like me – you don’t know anything about programming, HTML, or CSS.

The free plan has a lot of features and is definitely a great place to start. However, I recommend that you buy Elementor PRO to have even more features that you will surely need if you intend to monetize the site.

If you don’t want to monetize your site and keep it just as a hobby, then the free plugin will suffice.

Some good alternatives to Elementor to create your website from scratch are for example:

Best images optimization plugin: ShortPixel

image compression plugin
shortpixel

ShortPixel is another very useful plugin that automatically optimizes all the images you upload to your WordPress site’s media library. I recommend that you install it because by uploading a lot of images, the site will soon become very slow and will struggle to load.

A fast site, on the other hand, is certainly one of the success factors.

First, because Google likes speed and tends to reward fast sites by positioning them better in SERPs. The second reason is that readers are very impatient and if a site doesn’t load in a few moments, they tend to close the page and look for another resource.

ShortPixel therefore helps you to automatically achieve this dual purpose.

Best code plugin: Autoptimize

Autoptimize is another plugin that I recommend you install to always make the code of your site clean, fast, and performing.

In terms of optimization, this means a faster blog and the reasons why it should be are the same as explained above.

Best Header & Footer plugin: AddFunc Head & Footer Code

Another very useful plugin, if you are new to programming, is AddFunc Head & Footer Code. It is a plugin that many blogs use which allows you to add header or footer code, without going to work in the code editor.

This plugin is very useful especially to go and insert all those elements you need to create a successful blog, such as the verification of sites on Google Analytics or Google Search Console, to insert Google Adsense advertising banners, and so on. Street.

Best Plugins for a Blog in 2021: Conclusion

So, now we have covered the best plugins for a blog in 2021, which you should have installed if you’re running a blog. There are many more that can be used instead of the ones mentioned above, and many more to improve your blog’s performance. But, in this short article, I wanted to focus just on the ones that are essential, especially if you’re just starting out.

I hope this little guide will help you on your way to building a successful online business, and regaining your freedom.

To your success,

Does starting a blog still make sense? And how to create a successful blog? In this mega guide, I’ll explain how to start a blog from scratch and be able to monetize it

Creating a blog is a great way to create a business parallel to your job (the so-called side business) and eventually make it a real job.

With around 4 million posts published every day, the question arises: does it still make sense to create a blog? Or is the market already saturated? And how can you make money with a blog?

In this guide, I’ll explain step by step how to create a blog nowadays, from the preliminary analysis to the creation of the site, to get to promotion and monetization.

It is a guide of over 9,500 words, always being updated. All the marketers out there would charge you for such content. But I am of the opinion that the world really needs new bloggers and these notions must remain in the public domain.

Then save this guide in your browser favorites so that you can have it handy whenever you want.

Do you always want to have the steps for creating a blog at your fingertips? Then download the Checklist and create your blog making it monetizable in 7 days.

How to create a blog: the steps

So how do you start a blog?

The main steps you need to follow to create a successful blog are:

  • Find your Why
  • Choose the niche
  • Buy the domain and hosting
  • The design and structure of the blog
  • Create the main pages of your blog
  • The keyword research and the editorial plan
  • Write your first article
  • Optimize SEO.

Once these steps have been completed, it’s time to start monetizing. We will see how to do it in detail in the course of this article.

What is a blog?

what is a blog?
what is a blog?

A blog is exactly what you are reading right now: a website with content that is updated regularly that has the dual purpose of attracting new readers and generating online revenue.

There are numerous ways in which it is possible to make money with a blog: we will see some of them later.

Why should I start a blog?

Creating a blog is one of the simplest and cheapest ways to start your own business and become a web writer, earning directly online.

Anyone can do it, the important thing is to study the basics of blogging in order to be able to write effective articles, capable of attracting readers and positioning themselves on search engines.

However, they are skills that are learned along the way: the right time to start is today!

Does it still make sense to start a blog or is the market already saturated?

70 million new articles are posted on WordPress every month and 77 million new comments are posted.

And WordPress also offers a map that shows activity in real time: new posts, likes and live comments.

In such a competitive world, many people therefore give up on blogging even before starting for fear that the market is already saturated.

It’s actually still a perfect time to write a blog.

However, the watchword must be “differentiation”, that famous “Differentiate or Die” by Jack Trout (if you haven’t read that book yet, you absolutely have to!).

These days I did some research and found dozens of blogs all the same, with articles all the same, with the exact same call to action.

In the era of the Killer Competition it is therefore still essential to be able to stand out and stand out from the competition.

Maybe imagining – even for just a second – that our light can be a little brighter than the 3 million lights that appear on the WordPress map every day.

Do you need technical knowledge?

No. There are many tools that help you create a blog without you being a developer or a copywriter and I’ll explain everything step by step right in the course of this article.

Any additional skills you want to learn, you can learn over time.

Is it still possible to make money with a blog?

Absolutely!

There are many different ways to make money with the blog, and some of them can generate a really big income. We will be getting into those as well.

1. Find your “Why”

Even before creating a blog, even before starting to write, even before thinking about how to monetize it, there is a fundamental step you need to take: find your why, your why.

But what does this mean?

Before starting you need to deeply understand why you are doing it. What are your goals? Which values do you want to convey? What is the message you want to bring to the world?

According to Blog Tyrant, about 60% of the blogs that are created are also abandoned. This is generally because blogs fail to generate stable revenue.

On the other hand, other blogs, on the other hand, manage to obtain earnings of even € 100,000 or € 200,000 per month.

So what’s the difference between a successful blog and a blog that will be abandoned?

One of the elements of a blog’s success is undoubtedly finding one’s Why, a profound inner analysis that can make a real difference. As Simon Sinek repeats, people don’t buy your product, they buy your WHY, why you are doing it.

I leave you below an interesting video by Simon Sinek on this topic. And if you want to deepen the discussion, I suggest you read these two books by Simon:

  • Find Your “Why”: Only those who know their deepest motivations can fulfill themselves, inspire others, and become a great leader
  • Starting from the why: Like all great leaders, they know how to inspire employees and customers

2. Choose your niche

writing content for blog

Once you understand your why, why you are doing what you do, then it is really time to start preparing an action plan. The first step is usually that of choosing your niche and analyzing the target.

But what is meant by niche?

A niche is the thematic area you will deal with in your blog, such as travel, cooking, fashion, technology, fitness or do-it-yourself. The niches can tend to be infinite. The more specific the niche, the greater the chances that you can fit into that niche.

In fact, it is important not to make the mistake of addressing “everyone”, but only to a particular niche that shares your same interests and values.

I’ll explain better.

If I want to position myself in the sector – therefore in the niche – food, the competition is very high. Being able to emerge is therefore very difficult, unless you have a truly revolutionary idea and a lot, a lot of money to invest in it.

If that’s the case, then go for it and good luck! But if you are a person a little more in the norm, you will understand well that to be able to monetize a blog we need to find a slightly more profitable niche. And this results in a specific niche.

So let’s go back to the example of food. If you verticalize on a sub-niche of food, such as recipes with almonds, then the competition drops exponentially and you will have more chances to position yourself.

What you are going to do, therefore, will be to attract all the people who are interested in almonds: the history of almonds, their cultivation, recipes with almonds. All those interested in almonds will no longer turn to generic food sites but will love your blog.

But how to choose your niche?

Blogging as a passion

Many marketers will tell you to follow your passions. Monetize your passions. Create a business on your passions. But you know what? This is only partially true because if we exclusively follow our passions we get lost along the way of a practical and fundamental component: monetization.

Look closely, I’m not saying passion isn’t important. The important thing, however, is to understand how to monetize that passion (and if there is the possibility of monetization).

Creating a blog, constantly writing new content, following social networks, comments, emails… is a real full-time job. If this work does not bring financial results, soon your blog will end up in 60% of abandoned blogs around the world.

And this is precisely the reason why 95% of blogs do not have stable economic income: because we think of blogging as a passion and not as a company.

This is the real secret to a successful blog: treat it like a company, like a business. Putting economic revenues first, optimizing what brings monetary results and eliminating the superfluous.

This does not mean that we cannot create a blog and carry it on if it is not a passion of ours.

S.M.A.R.T. objectives

You do not open a blog for passion but for business (always if you want to make a profit). And if the topic is about your passion, then the chances of success are certainly higher.

I recommend that you develop a plan of goals that you want to achieve with your blog. They can be traffic goals (e.g. 1,000 monthly readers within 3 months), monetization goals (e.g. € 1,000 monthly within 3 months) and so on.

The important thing is that the objectives are S.M.A.R.T., namely:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bound

Which niche is profitable?

So we come to the crucial question: how do you choose a niche that is profitable? A profitable niche has 4 characteristics:

  • It has a decent number of people interested in the subject
  • Discuss a topic you know well
  • People are willing to spend some money
  • You have something to sell in that niche.

If you have covered all of these 4 points, then the niche can be profitable and worth a try.

And now let’s move on to the practical test: based on the characteristics I explained to you, which of these do you think is a profitable niche?

  • People interested in turtle shells with wheels?
  • People interested in yoga?

Great, you passed the test!

One last important note before moving on to the next paragraph: when are people willing to spend money? The answer is very simple: when you help them solve a problem.

Think carefully about every time you’ve made a purchase. You did it to solve a problem, knowingly or unknowingly. Find your niche, understand what its problem is and offer a solution.

3. Start a WordPress blog

wordpress blog
starting a wordpress blog

You have found your why, you have selected your niche. What do you do now?

Now is the time to take action! The first thing to do is to find a name for your blog.

Opt for a simple name, one that you remember well and knows how to encompass all the core of your business. If your goal is to develop your personal branding, as for example in my case, then the blog can be called with your name and surname. A simple and very effective solution!

Once you have chosen the name, you must purchase the domain, which is the physical address of the blog. In my case, www.eleonorabaldelli.com is the domain I chose and purchased. This domain will then need to be placed on a server that is purchased through a hosting plan.

To better understand the concept, think of your blog as a home. The domain will be the address of the house while the hosting will be the land on which it is built.

But how do you buy domain and hosting? There are many solutions.

When it comes to domains I strongly recommend Namecheap. They are cheap, cover all the bases, and have great support.

What I recommend is to join ProfitHub. That way you will get unlimited hosting for unlimited domains.

ProfitHub: Unlimited Cheap Hosting

4. Create the blog design and structure

Once your house is built on the land (hosting) and has its own address (domain) it is time to furnish it, that is to create all the content that will make up your blog.

The first thing to do is therefore to choose a theme (or template), that is a graphic layout for your website. There are also many free ones and you can find them by logging into your WordPress site and clicking on the menu on the left Appearance> Themes.

Now just click on “Add new” to open a window with hundreds of free templates that you can install on your website.

You can also decide to create the entire layout from scratch by installing Elementor for example.

Even if you are not a design expert, I advise you to pay particular attention to the appearance of your site.

A study conducted by Google together with the University of Basel, in fact, showed that in a fraction of a second your readers will perceive the aesthetic beauty of your site.

Good design means trust.

In fact, people tend to trust more a site with attention to every detail. This means that based on the layout you choose, people will decide in a split second whether to trust or not trust you.

5. Create the main pages of your blog

The main pages that make up a website, excluding the blog, are:

  • Homepage, i.e. the first page of the site
  • About page, where you explain who you are
  • Contact Page, i.e. the contact page.

Creating a Homepage

As for the homepage, initially you can also show the latest blog articles.

To choose this option go to the WordPress menu and select Appearance> Customize and in the menu that opens Settings Homepage> Your homepage shows> select “latest articles”.

If you select “A static page” instead, it will ask you which page you want to show. Choose the page you have already created or create a new one.

To do this, just go back to the main WordPress menu and select Pages> Add Page. If you have Elementor installed, click on Edit with Elementor now and create your new homepage.

Don’t forget to go back to Appearance> Customize and select the new page as your homepage.

The About page and the Contact page

The About page is a very important page because it will become your business card.

It will be on this page that readers will discover who you are, what your story is, what your “why” is.

  • Why should people listen to you?
  • What problem can you solve?
  • How can they contact you?

Then explain on your About page who you are, your story or the history of your company, what are the services you offer but also what are your values, your goals and the message you want to convey in the world.

You can also add, for example, your works, a link to your social networks and a contact form through which they can quickly write to you. Alternatively, you can create a separate Contacts page where you can explain how people can reach you, physically, by phone or by email.

Try to be genuine on your About page. People need more to see true truths and results, setbacks and failures and how they have been overcome instead of (rented) apartments in Dubai and Ferrari (rented) in the garage.

Nowadays, the real differentiating element is precisely authenticity.

And that’s what makes the difference between a blog that may be successful for a while but then tends to die compared to a real one, which grows more slowly but is destined to last over time.

6. Prepare your keyword research and editorial plan

Your website is now officially ready. Now you can really start creating content.

All beautiful, a lot of energy, mucho enthusiasm. But … what should we write? What should we talk about?

That’s where keyword research comes into play.

The starting point for keyword research is your niche. Let’s go back to the example of the blog on recipes with almonds.

Try to do a first search on forums, such as Quora, on Facebook groups, on other blogs that deal with recipes with almonds and try to understand which are the most asked questions.

keyword research

They could be for example:

  • How do you shell almonds?
  • How is almond paste prepared?
  • Where can almonds be bought?

Obviously, these are questions that I am asking totally at random, but by looking where I told you you will surely find ideas that you had not thought of.

Now, write 5-10 of these ideas and questions, including your own ideas and topics you would like to cover. This will be the basis for your keyword research.

The keyword research is therefore a keyword search that is done through some tools to understand if and how much demand there is actually for this topic on the web and then target the keywords that can bring you the most traffic.

There are numerous ways to come up with new ideas for your blog posts.

One of the tools I use very often is as simple as it is powerful: Answer the Public.

As a result, you will find all the questions and research that people have done on that topic, offering you hundreds of other keywords that can help you verticalize your articles.

The more your articles answer the questions people ask on the web, the more your content will be appreciated by your audience. So save Answer the Public among your favorite tools because it will be a powerful ally for writing your blog articles.

7. How to write an article on WordPress

Now that the editorial plan is ready, it’s really time to write your first article. Then go to WordPress and from the menu on the left choose Articles> Add new.

To write an effective article, which knows how to satisfy both your readers and Google mom, there are some precautions that you must always keep in mind.

The first is to always offer truly quality content, which knows how to make a difference. I know it is a phrase that is often repeated when we talk about marketing, but the value is something that tends to be lacking more and more often, and just take a tour of the many existing blogs to realize it.

Ecco allora qualche consiglio per scrivere degli articoli di valore concreto:

  • Offer solutions that can be applied right away
  • Prove your skills and knowledge and accompany them with authoritative sources, real results, and case studies
  • Help people genuinely and sincerely
  • Make the title of your post captivating, without falling into vulgar click-baiting. There are many online tools that help evaluate the effectiveness of your headline, as I also explained in the article “How to write an effective (and attention-grabbing) headline: 25 tips and examples to make your headline captivating”
  • Include videos, images, graphics, and infographics in the articles to help readers follow and deepen what they are reading
  • Write simple, short sentences, just like I am doing in this article. Wrap often so as to leave white spaces that help reading on the screen, physically more difficult than reading on paper
  • Use bulleted and numbered lists
  • Use the headlines (H2, H3 …) in order to facilitate the consultation of the article
  • Highlight important words with bold or italics
  • Even if there is no ideal minimum number of words, I recommend that you write posts over 1000 words.

8. Creating a successful blog: SEO optimization

SEO for blog
SEO for blog

Once your article is completed, if you have installed the Yoast SEO or Rank Math plugin, below the article you can find numerous suggestions that can help you optimize the article for search engines.

Consider the Yoast traffic light just an indication. Having a green light does not mean that the article will definitely position itself while I happened to place articles that instead had a red light.

Once you’ve checked Yoast’s or RankMath’s indications (these above are from RankMath and relate to this article at this point in the article), it’s time to optimize the snippet.

The title is automatically taken from the one entered at the top (H1). If it exceeds the allowed characters you can write another shorter title.

Then optimize the URL, inserting only the keyword (and not the entire title of the post) and the meta description, trying to insert the keyword you have chosen.

Now, in the menu on the right, insert a highlighted image and rename it with the keyword of your post. Also choose the category of the article and any tags.

Et voilà, your post is optimized and ready to go!

How to monetize your blog

monetizing your blog
monetizing your blog

In the course of this long guide you have learned how to create a blog from scratch, you have discovered how to create an article that manages to position itself in the first Google search results and you have discovered some great ways to increase your authority in the niche you have chosen and promote. the Web site.

So let’s get to the highlight of this article: how do you monetize a blog?

There are mainly 13 different methods through which you can make money with a blog, 8 of which are:

  1. By selling your services
  2. Through affiliate programs
  3. With sponsored content
  4. Selling online courses
  5. Thanks to banner ads
  6. Through a podcast
  7. By selling physical e-commerce products
  8. Through partnerships.

Selling your services

Especially if you are a professional, one of the methods to start earning immediately with your blog is through the sale of your services.

Through your blog you can in fact demonstrate your skills and knowledge, show the results you have achieved and naturally attract new customers.

Host guest posts

Once your blog has reached a substantial number of monthly readers, roughly above 5 / 10,000 per month, you can offer the possibility to publish guest posts on your paid blog.

If your site has good traffic and a good Domain Authority, many bloggers in your niche will enjoy writing content for your blog in exchange for a link.

Here, to do this, you can ask them for a payment that can vary from a few euros to several hundred based on your monthly traffic and your domain authority.

Affiliate programs

Another way to monetize a blog are affiliate programs. But how do they work?

Some companies offer an affiliate program and give you a particular tracking link that you can place in your articles or emails. Every time someone buys a product through your affiliate link, the company pays you a commission.

Two of the major portals most commonly used are Shareasale and Awin.

The advice I can give you when dealing with affiliations is to promote only products that you use yourself and that you would recommend regardless of the income you can make.

This is mainly for two reasons:

  • If you recommend products that are poor quality or that you do not trust yourself, you will soon lose the authority and trust of your readers.
  • If you promote just to generate income, your affiliations will be forced and this will lead people to ask for refunds. More refunds = less income for you.

Online courses

If you are very specialized in a subject or have special knowledge that you can teach others, you can create an online course where people pay to access.

There are numerous courses that can be developed, from the most technical to the most creative: painting, writing, social media, public speaking courses… There are really no limits.

Here’s an example. This is a free course I have created that teaches people how to use video for marketing:

FREE VIDEO MARKETING COURSE

Advertising

Another method you can use to get revenue are banner ads, such as Google Adsense.

Adding them to the site is very simple. Just create an Adsense account, add a string of code to your WordPress site and the banners will appear as if by magic. Every time someone clicks on it, you will get a small profit.

Pros and cons of this monetization method?

  • Pros: simple to install and immediately earns you money
  • Cons: you will hardly be able to raise interesting income if you do not have very high traffic on the site (in the order of hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors).

Podcasts

Another type of monetization that I have personally never used but which I have followed the development of the strategy by some of my clients is podcasts.

How do you make money with a podcast? Very simple. If you already follow podcasts you will have noticed that very often a product or service is presented at the beginning. That’s real sponsored content, meaning company X paid podcaster Y to mention his product or service in their podcast.

Again, to make money from a podcast it is essential to have a good number of listeners.

Physical products: E-commerce

Through a blog you can also sell physical products. And this is where e-commerce comes into play.

E-commerce is nothing more than a real virtual store in which people choose the product they want, pay for it and if they see it received directly at home. The emblem of e-commerce is Amazon.

E-commerce is undoubtedly one of the most used ways by those who already have a physical store and want to sell their products online. In this case, you will need to have a warehouse and personally manage shipments and returns.

Partnership and Influencer Marketing

The last method I want to present to you to start earning with your blog is that of partnerships and influence marketing.

Once you have created a blog and launched it on the market, the first partnerships will gradually begin. For example, I collaborate with other bloggers and SEO experts on other projects we are carrying out, but also with journalists and influencers, with whom we have created a real network.

Finding partners, unfortunately, is not easy because we don’t always manage to find people who share our passions, our ambitions or our goals.

But when you can find them, working together is incredible. Also because when you work as a freelancer, after the initial enthusiasm of working from home, in smart working or remote working, perhaps in pajamas, we soon realize that if we do not weave a close network of social contacts, it is easy to find ourselves a little isolated. from the world.

And let’s face it: working together is much more satisfying than working alone. And it also brings better results.

Before looking for business partners or influencers to forge purely business partnerships, therefore, build a solid, genuine, and authentic relationship with them. These are the best collaborations you can find!

How to start a blog in 2021: final thoughts

We have reached the end of this long guide on how to create a blog, launch it on the market and start making money. The information you have read is so many and perhaps at first it will all seem a bit confusing to you.

Don’t worry, it’s normal when learning new information.

Save this guide in your favorite tab, and come back periodically as you follow the steps for creating the blog. You will see that with practice, everything will become clearer.

A little advice before saying goodbye. From experience, I can tell you that initially creating a blog gives you an incredible charge and energy and makes you produce content on content.

Now, with this guide, you really have everything you need to create a blog of your own. So you just have to get to work.

To your success!

Choosing the best cloud web hosting services for your website is one of the most important things when running any kind of online business. It can affect the performance, stability, security, and visibility of your sites.

Here, we will try to clarify how to choose the best cloud web hosting services.

The difference between shared, and cloud server hosting

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is nothing more than a webspace inside a server that is made accessible from the outside. Various services are activated within the server (web server, database, modules, etc …). These services are essential to providing the correct infrastructure capable of hosting our web app or our CMS (such as WordPress).

Usually, medium-sized sites are stored within shared hosting – that is, web spaces managed by your service provider within a server that hosts many other websites at the same time.

The advantage of this solution is its low cost.

The service provider will divide the maintenance, update, and backup costs of the single web server among all users who share the service. The obvious disadvantage concerns the performance and flexibility of the service which, being shared, cannot be highly customized.

Instead, a different way is to choose a dedicated hosting or a cloud server that will allow you to use customized solutions.

In this case, there are service providers who offer dedicated solutions but manage the infrastructure entirely themselves. Others, make the cloud server available but leave the management, maintenance, backup, etc. to the customer who must then have certain technical skills.

What features and functionalities should a web hosting have?

The necessary features and functionalities depend on many different factors, but generally the things to take into consideration are the following:

  • Presence of a hosting or cloud server management panel
  • Webspace available and number of databases
  • Any limitations to the number of queries that can be made per hour
  • Unlimited or pay-as-you-go traffic
  • Presence of courtesy backups or daily/weekly backups
  • Ability to create staging areas on the fly to test updates or changes to the site
  • Type of IP
  • The presence or lack of a CDN
  • The geographical area in which the server hosting resides in order to determine the support response time
  • Ability to install or configure modules within your own webspace
  • Ability to host third-level domains or domain aliases
  • The efficiency of customer service and speed in processing tickets

As you can see, choosing the right hosting service provider is no easy task. With so many things to take into consideration, many people just give up and disregard even thinking about it. And this can sometimes cost your website’s performances dearly.

So, How do you get the best cloud web hosting services?

Some people go for free unlimited cloud web hosting, as many providers offer such services. But, you have to be aware that none of the companies that are successful use free cloud web hosting. It might sound good, but it will not bring any fruits in the long run.

That’s why I strongly suggest to take a look at ProfitHUB.

Problems with web hosting?

  • Existing hosting is expensive, hard to configure, and unreliable!
  • Millions of more sites are hacked or fall victim to ransomware or malware!
  • Speed and performance sucks and sites load forever!
  • You still have to set up WordPress, pay for backups, GDPR and ADA compliance tools, DDOS protection, SSL, business email.

UNTIL TODAY YOU WERE STUCK WITH ONLY 2 BAD OPTIONS:

You could pay for an expensive recurring web hosting, or you could give up and go with a “free” hosting account.

These 2 options have lots of downsides, though:

  • Crazy expensive monthly fees
  • Questionable security
  • Tons of limitations
  • Appear totally unprofessional to clients and visitors
  • Lose all your sales to your competition

So, why take any risks? Why not take the best from both worlds:

Do you know that it is possible to do affiliate marketing on Instagram? The social media dedicated to images and now more and more also to videos turns out to be a very effective channel for achieving interesting results if used in a certain way. The beauty of working with affiliations is precisely this: there are no fixed rules established in advance but, with a certain mindset, it is possible to take advantage of each channel according to one’s inclinations.

Choosing the right channel to do affiliate marketing

The choice of channel is very important, almost as much as the topic to be discussed and the resulting products and services to be promoted. This is because, especially on social media, to create valuable and engaging content, authenticity is essential.

Authenticity is what you will need to engage the users who follow you and establish relationships of trust based on mutual respect. If you are not authentic, if you fail to communicate your passion for what you treat and promote, then you will hardly be able to sell.

This is why the choice of the channel is just as important, just like that of the topic and the reference niche to address. Choose it based on what makes you feel most at ease, prefer the channel that allows you to best express your potential. There are people who are more inclined to writing, while others express themselves better through videos. I always advise you to have a blog or a website with quality content, because you will need it to subscribe to the affiliate networks where, in fact, it is required.

However, at the same time, you will have to add communication on social media to your site, so that you can take advantage of the Ads and other tools made available by the chosen platforms. Initially, in order not to waste your economic resources and your time, you can make a strategic choice, based precisely on the channel in which you express yourself best, and then gradually implement more channels.

Affiliate marketing on Instagram: why it’s a winning mix

Have you chosen Instagram for promoting products and services? Great, let’s see together why, if used strategically, this channel can turn out to be a winning card to play!

Affiliate marketing is a commercial agreement that involves three “actors”: the advertiser who wants to sell the product or service, the affiliate that is who, through the promotion, undertakes to generate contacts and / or sales depending on what has been agreed with the advertiser and, finally, the recipient to whom it is addressed: the end user. Sometimes the relationships between advertisers and affiliates are mediated by an affiliate network.

The affiliate will be able to promote products and services through their Instagram profile, using the posts both within the classic feed and through the Stories, to refer the user to landing pages and / or sales pages, squeeze pages, advertorials with text. links, specific e-commerce sections, where the user can carry out the action suggested by the affiliate himself with a CTA (Call To Action): leave your contact (it is lead generation) or make the purchase.

First of all, you must check whether the use of social media and, specifically, Instagram is permitted in the policy drawn up by the advertiser or the affiliate network. Do not underestimate this verification step, in fact, in several cases the channels allowed for the sponsorship and promotion of products and services are established in advance and included in the policy.

Once you have made sure you can use Instagram to convey both the promotion and the sale of predetermined products and services, it is time to get your hands dirty and start experimenting with the potential of this channel.

The tools for creating and promoting content on Instagram

Another reason to do affiliate marketing on Instagram? This social network turns out to be a channel full of tools to be exploited for promotion. From the classic posts, in which it is possible to share both photos and videos within the feed, even via IG TV, using the Ads (to be set on Business Manager for greater control and accuracy), up to the Stories that allow, to who has more than 10,000 followers, to carry out the so-called “Swipe up” and insert a direct link to a web page, a video on Youtube etc.

Also, don’t forget the “Instagram Shopping” feature which, thanks to the shopping tag, allows you to tag products and sell them online, sending the customer directly to the site where they can complete the purchase. However, for this function, remember that digital services and products are excluded and cannot be sold.

As you can see, the promotion possibilities are many and, if you know how to exploit them properly, you can get interesting results.

Before embarking on this new adventure with the social media dedicated to images, follow the 6 practical tips + EXTRA to set up your work in an ethical, correct, and performing way!

How to use Instagram to do affiliate marketing: 6 tips + EXTRAS

Set up a business account

You can really discover the potential of Instagram when you upgrade from a simple personal profile to a “business account” or a “content creator”. Both options have interesting advantages, for the type of promotional work you will be doing as an affiliate, I recommend setting the first option: business account. Thanks to the business account, you can benefit from the “Insights” section, entirely dedicated to data relating to your content and performance achieved. In addition, you will also be able to see the data collected about your followers, their demographic information and their online habits. Finally, you will access data on your last weekly performance:

  • Impressions;
  • Coverage;
  • Views;
  • Clicks on the site;
  • Growth or decline of followers or;
  • The number of posts etc.

Add the contact button

It is very important to highlight your contacts and your contact details within your communication channels, in order to be contacted by companies and, possibly, also by affiliate networks in quick and easy way. Well, by switching from a personal account to a corporate one, you can add a contact button to your profile. Automatically, when someone clicks on the button they can, depending on the option you choose, send you an email, call you or view a map showing your location.

Insert hyperlinks in Stories: Swipe up

What annoys those who do affiliate marketing on Instagram the most? I bet you have already guessed! This is the inability to insert links, or hyperlinks, to be clicked to be redirected, for example, to a website or landing page. The only exceptions are the link that you can insert in your bio, which I will talk about later, and the Swipe up, a hyperlink that you can insert directly into your Stories, as long as you have a business account and at least 10,000 followers.

Strategically structure your bio

The biography, also called bio, of Instagram is very important: when a user arrives on your profile he wants to know as quickly as possible:

  • Who are you;
  • What are you doing;
  • If and why it is worth following you.

Therefore, this section must be strategically structured to answer these questions and entice the user to follow you. Attention, because right here you have the possibility to insert a link, so think carefully:

  • If you have not yet reached 10,000 followers, you can enter the link here that will send potentially interested users to purchase the sponsored product. Maybe it could be a landing page, or an advertorial containing text links, or, again, a promotional video.
  • If you have reached 10,000 followers, on the other hand, you can already insert links in the Stories, so in the bio, you could put a link that refers to your website where, in addition to promotional content, people can find information about you and about your business.
  • Consider whether to use Linktree: in some cases, the professional affiliate manages multiple communication and promotional channels, such as a website, a Youtube channel, a podcast, etc. Therefore it needs to insert more than one link. In this case, it is possible to evaluate whether to use Linktree, a tool that allows you to send your followers from Instagram to the various links you have entered.

Use Instagram Ads

Once you have strategically set up your Instagram profile, created content, and selected the products you want to promote, it is time to use a powerful tool that can become your valuable ally: Instagram Ads. I advise you, before even thinking about sponsored, to create quality content, at least an average of 8-16 posts, so that, once people arrive on your feed, it is not lackluster. Furthermore, as anticipated, it is better to set the Ads using the Facebook Business Manager for greater precision and control.

Do not immediately invest large sums of money in Ads, hoping in some way to “forge ahead”, the only thing you would burn would be your budget!

Allocate a certain amount of your budget to carry out small tests and understand which are the contents that work the most in terms of interaction and, of course, conversion. You can sponsor single images, carousels, videos, and even Stories. Please pay attention to the text, developing persuasive and engaging copy, mixing your personal creativity and the appropriate copywriting techniques.

Don’t overdo it with CTAs, remember that posts and Stories are neither landing pages nor advertorials were to disseminate CTAs. Too many CTAs confuse the user who, in the end, could leave your post without taking any action. So, be cautious, insert a maximum of one clear and immediate CTA per post and, above all, don’t be too aggressive. Always ask yourself: if I had to speak to a customer in person, is this how I would go to convey the sale? Or would I use other tones? Adjust accordingly. Remember: being persuasive is not synonymous with being coercive.

Quality Lead Generation: generate useful contacts

Especially at the beginning you will be tempted to show the products you are sponsoring to as many people as possible, but this sort of “initial gluttony” could be a trap. It is much better to show your product or service to a limited but well-researched target made up of people who may really be potentially interested. It makes no sense for 100 people to see your promotions if none of them take an action!

Keep in mind, in fact, that those who entrust you with the promotion of their products as advertisers, regardless of the objectives you agree on, will want concrete results. Usually, the agreements are based on a certain number of CPAs (Cost Per Action) to reach, which could be, for example, a certain number of contacts generated. Will these collected contacts of potentially interested users then turn into actual customers? Consequently, it is important that a study of the target and of the buyer personas is present upstream with consequent testing, in order to intercept users who are really interested in what you have decided to promote.

EXTRA tips to increase performance

At this point, you have all the tools to start your business as a professional affiliate who uses Instagram to promote your chosen products.

I would like to add some special EXTRAS in order to save you precious time.

Check out the Insights, but don’t let it sway you too much

The Insights section is of paramount importance, but remember to also listen to your instincts, experiment and don’t become a slave to the statistics. Sometimes creativity and authenticity pay off better than any data. Maintain a healthy balance between your creative flair and the data provided by the platform. It constantly monitors the ROAS (Return On Advertising Spending) and avoids arbitrage which, as we know, has never been a pillar on which to base a sustainable business over time.

Respect your audience

Your followers are, first of all, people and not numbers or lemons to squeeze, as such they must be respected and treated in a serious and professional manner. Do not “sell out” and do not lose your credibility by promoting products that you would not buy first, or that have nothing to do with the niche you want to target. Be consistent and work on your personal brand. I realize that setting up a job of this type takes more time, but I assure you that forging ahead, trying to sell unreliable products, will make you lose credibility in front of your audience and when it happens, it is very difficult to recover.

Which affiliate programs to join?

You can initially sign up for affiliate programs like those of Amazon, eBay Partner Network, and AliExpress. The advantage of starting with these affiliate programs, especially if you are still in the initial phase, is the reliability of the brand, the multitude of products that you can promote, among which to choose the ones most in line with your niche and the fact that for no payment is required.

How to Build A 7-Figure Online Business Using Nothing But Ethical Email Marketing

Now it’s your turn

We are at the end of this article dedicated to how to do affiliate marketing on Instagram. I hope I have helped you understand how Instagram can become a valid communication and promotion channel for any affiliate. In addition to technical and practical advice, I hope it is clear how important it is, in this work, to operate following an ethics that always aims to respect the consumer, promoting quality products and services that you yourself would buy or sell to a member. of your family (the ones you like!).

Stay safe and stay tuned for more!

Do you want to write new content for your blog but run out of ideas? This article will explain how to find new ideas and inspiration for the articles on your website.

When we decide to create a blog, very often the blank page in front of us turns into an insurmountable wall, and finding new ideas for blog articles becomes a really big problem.

First I want to reassure you: it is something that happens to all novice web writers. In this article, we will therefore go to see which paths you can take to find new topics to write on your blog.

How To Find New Ideas For Your Blog Articles

How to find new ideas for blog articles

How to find ideas for new articles? Very simple:

  • Search the forums
  • Read books and blogs on the subject
  • Follow hashtags on LinkedIn
  • Tell your experience
  • Update your old content
  • Write an interview
  • Express your opinion
  • Use SEO tools
  • Use Google Analytics
  • Steal traffic from your competitors.

Here’s a great video on how to do Keyword Research:

Let’s look at all these points in more detail.

Ask your community

Creating a community around your blog and the topics you cover is the first step to making your content successful. You don’t have to write (only) for yourself but mainly for your audience.

And there’s no better audience than your community to advise you on what to write? Ask openly what topics they would like to read. Very often they will be able to give you new ideas and particular facets regarding a certain topic.

Search Forums for new ideas

explore forums

The secret to writing interesting content is not actually knowing how to write well (although this is still a very important aspect) but rather answering the right questions.

And where can you find the right questions? No doubt on online forums. If I have – for example – a blog on copywriting, searching the forums dedicated to this topic for the most common and most asked questions will help you find ideas for developing new articles.

The easiest way to find these forums is to do a Google search by writing [topic] + forum, otherwise you can fish in the most popular generic forums, such as:

  • Quora
  • Yahoo Answer
  • Reddit
  • Other Forums

Read books and blogs on the subject

The best inspiration for new articles I have had since doing this job has been given to me by reading blogs and books on a given topic.

I often do research to write an article and it may happen that while I am researching, I read a sentence, a paragraph, or a related article that gives me the idea for a new post on my blog.

In addition, reading a lot about the topic that is close to your heart (but actually also about different topics) helps you to have a clearer overview and find new ideas to explore.

Follow hashtags on LinkedIn

search hashtags

LinkedIn has added the hashtag function that allows you to label your post or follow the hashtags of the topics you prefer.

By following the hashtags you have the opportunity to read numerous news, opinions, or strategies regarding a certain topic and this can undoubtedly give you useful ideas to write a new piece.

Tell your experience

People love to read the experiences of others.

Obviously it must be something of value, from which the reader can draw a lesson. You can tell about that time “you managed to …” or an interesting case study or an experience from which you learned something.

By telling your experiences you can help those who follow you to know you better, but also to solve a problem that you have already managed to solve. Or you can just share to inspire and motivate.

Update old content

Sometimes it doesn’t matter to write new content. If you already have articles on your blog, you may want to pick them up, reread them and make them current again.

Updating your articles also has a lot of additional benefits:

  • reduces the bounce rate. This means your audience will stay longer on your website
  • it is very frustrating when we are faced with outdated content because the message being conveyed is that the blog is not being cured. This also makes people lose confidence in us. Updating your content, therefore, helps to create a stronger relationship with our target, generate more traffic and increase conversions.
  • When we write, we must always keep an eye on our audience and one eye on mom Google. And updating our content also gives positive feedback to Google, which in this regard introduced the concept of freshness back in 2011.

Write an interview

blog interview

An excellent idea for proposing new content is to do an interview, perhaps with an expert in your sector, a colleague, or someone who can offer interesting feedback on a certain topic.

Interviews are also a very useful way, not only to get new content but also to increase our traffic and our visibility since the interview will almost certainly also be shared by the person who was interviewed.

Express your opinion on a topic

Taking up a topic discussed by someone and saying our opinion on it can be a valid starting point for creating new content.

You can then cite a source that impressed you and say why you or you disagree with what they said. Or you can just pick up the trending topics and give your opinion on them.

To find these topics, you can search Twitter’s trending hashtags or use some SEO tools.

Write a review

Reviews are a great way to create interesting content. How many times have you read / listened to / watched reviews created by others before purchasing a product or service?

Through reviews you can tell about a product you liked, explain its use and help other people decide whether to buy it or not.

But be careful: the reviews must always be truthful. You don’t want to lose the trust of your audience, do you?

Use SEO tools

search engine optimization

The last piece of advice I would like to give you to find new ideas for writing articles on your blog is to use the best tools for bloggers that those who deal with SEO usually use.

SEO is in fact that set of strategies that aim to improve the positioning of a blog or web on search engines and to do this, it also makes use of keyword research.

Through these tools, you can then understand what people’s interests are, what questions they ask Google, and all the related topics that may be of interest to them.

Find out what are the best SEO Copywriting Techniques

Final reflections

Finding new ideas for writing your blog articles is nothing difficult. Now you also have all the tools to do it!

The real secret to writing engaging lyrics always remains one: listen carefully to your audience.

Talk to your target audience, listen to their requests, their doubts, their fears. And you will see that you will never have a problem finding ideas and inspiration for your articles.

Hope you enjoyed reading this article, and feel free to suggest, comment, and share it with your friends.

Stay safe and stay tuned for more!

The best SEO Copywriting techniques to create engaging and effective content, well-positioned and increase your blog traffic and conversions

SEO Copywriting has become the cornerstone of any successful blog. It is a set of techniques that can help you write content that is engaging and interesting for your readers and at the same time optimized for search engines so that they can rank in the top search results of Google.

We will take a look at these techniques in this article on SEO copywriting, where we will see together in more detail what SEO Copywriting consists of, all the techniques and tools you will need to become an SEO Copywriter and write SEO-optimized articles.

What is SEO Copywriting?

SEO Copywriting is creating content capable of attracting and engaging your readers and that is optimized from an SEO perspective so that they are able to position themselves among the top Google search results. Only by managing to keep these two aspects in perfect balance, in fact, can you really be sure of creating a successful blog. And the reason is as simple as it is banal.

When we start a blog, the 3 main problems we often see are:

  • little inbound traffic
  • the blog does not appear in the top positions on search engines
  • people visit our content and leave after a few seconds.

These issues are easily solved by applying certain SEO Copywriting strategies.

Differences between SEO and Copywriting

There are in fact two important judges who decide the results of your blog: your readers and the search engines, especially Google.

The purpose of Copywriting is to write captivating content, capable of attracting your readers and transforming them into customers. But you won’t have potential customers if these readers never manage to find your blog. And to be able to find your blog, it is therefore important that your content is well positioned on Google. This is the purpose of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

And that’s exactly what SEO Copywriting means: the perfect combination of copywriting with the best SEO strategies. By implementing SEO Copywriting techniques, you can then write content that is capable of gluing your readers to the screen and turning them into customers, and optimized for search engines, so that your blog is highly visible on Google.

8 strategies for writing an article that both readers and Google will love

The purpose of those who deal with SEO Copywriting is therefore to write an article that is positioned on Google and very effective for your readers.

To do this you essentially need to:

  • Do a thorough keyword research
  • Prepare the draft of the article
  • Optimize the title
  • Write engaging content
  • Optimize text (SEO On-Page), metadata, and images
  • Do link building.

Other more technical aspects that play a fundamental role for the positioning of a blog on search engines are also Off-Page SEO and technical SEO, which we will not deal with here since they are techniques that are generally not an SEO Copywriter is involved but an SEO Specialist, that is a person who deals exclusively with SEO.

Normally, in fact, an SEO Copywriter (but also a simple web writer) works closely with an SEO Specialist who prepares the writer’s work and guides him in the drafting of the articles.

And, while the SEO Copywriter is mainly concerned with the optimization of their articles, the SEO Specialist does a more well-rounded job in order to push the optimization of the entire website.

1. Do a thorough keyword research

The top 3 search results on Google get 60% of the total traffic. This immediately makes it clear why it is important to position yourself in the top 3 of the Google SERP.

To do this, one of the very first things you need is to do a methodical and structured keyword search, that is, a collection of keywords that can intercept searches made by people interested in your niche.

I’ll give you an example. If you came to this article from Google, your search was probably with the terms:

  • SEO copywriting
  • what is SEO copywriting
  • How to become an SEO copywriter

If you can identify the most important keywords for an article, it will then be easier to position it on search engines, so that it is found by those looking for information on Google about the topic you are writing about.

Read my comprehensive guide on how to do keyword research and double your blog traffic here

2. Create the draft of the text before writing it

Once you have selected the main keyword and the secondary keywords of your article, it is time to start working on the text.

A mistake that many people make is to write articles straight away, without previously creating a structure. Creating a structure, on the other hand, helps not only readers to orient themselves in the text but also Google to understand what you are talking about. The tidier your property is, the more your content will be rewarded, making it rise in SERPs.

So what does it mean to create a structure?

The best way to sort the topics of a blog article is to create the classic inverted pyramid structure, very common in journalism. Google also really likes this structure. Google loves ease, speed. What it asks you to do is to understand what the reader is looking for and to offer the answer as soon as possible.

3. Optimize the title for both readers and Google

Writing a headline also has the dual purpose of attracting readers and making the subject matter understandable for Google, so it is important to always optimize your titles.

4. Write engaging content

We have the keywords, we have the structure and we have the title. What’s missing now? Obviously the content.

In order for you to get the maximum out of your content there are several bases you need to cover. You need to know your audience, and know how to target specificly the readers that fit your interest group. Make your articles an easy read, and write in a simple style. Don’t forget to check for grammar mistakes. Even if you feel that your article is perfect, read it again.

5. Optimize your text for SEO (On-Page SEO)

As mentioned before, SEO is the discipline that deals with the positioning of websites and blogs on search engines.

It’s not an exact science since no one knows Google’s algorithm precisely. However, there are some practices that, if implemented, will be able to give our blog a nice little push up. A sub-category of SEO is what is called On-Page SEO, that is, the optimization that is done on every single page or article. To do this, you can help yourself with some plugins that you can install directly on WordPress, such as Rank Math or Yoast SEO.

Watch my video on 9 steps of On-Page Optimization checklist here:

6. Optimize images

Even the images, once inserted, should be optimized. Here are some guidelines for optimizing the images for a blog article:

  • Resize images to page size
  • Reduce the weight of images (I use this free tool)
  • Rename the images with the keyword or with a word related to the main topic
  • Once the image has been uploaded, also write the title and alternative text of the image.

7. Optimize metadata

Another aspect of SEO copywriting is the optimization of the article metadata.

But what is metadata?

Metadata is a data system used to describe other data, especially used to digitize information on the Internet or in electronic archives.

Don’t worry … no codes, programming or technical stuff. In this case the Yoast SEO plugin comes to our aid.

Once installed, in fact, a box will appear under the WordPress article editor that allows you to edit those text elements that appear on Google search results.

From here you will be able to edit these metadata, namely the title that will appear on Google, the URL of the article and the small summary.

Always optimize these elements in a way that not only makes Google understand what you are talking about but also to attract new readers who seek answers to their questions.

8. Link-building

By link building we mean to relate certain articles, pages and websites through a link. For Google, links are a very serious matter. It is therefore important to learn how to create good link building without overdoing this functionality.

I will not go into the link-building discourse here, also because it is a rather long and complicated topic and we would risk going off-topic.

But I’ll tell you a couple of important things about link building with regards to the optimization of a blog article.

One of the required aspects is precisely that of inserting links: internal links and external links.

  • internal links are links that refer to other content on your websites, such as a landing page or an in-depth article
  • external links, on the other hand, are links that refer to the contents of other websites.

How long should your article be?

Very often we tend to think that long contents rank better than short ones (therefore they are more appreciated by Google) while short ones are preferred by readers, who are looking for quick answers to their questions.

The good news is that Google doesn’t care about the number of words. Google cares about the quality and originality of your content.

And a reader wants to get the answers to his questions. And the length of the answer depends on the question. If I ask you “How much is 2 + 2?”, I don’t expect a 10-page answer. I expect you to answer “four”. If I ask you “What is quantum physics?” Then I expect a much longer, more comprehensive, and detailed answer.

Selling affiliate products benefits all parties involved in the process. If done in an ethical manner, affiliation allows the advertiser to improve and increase the sales of their products or services, the affiliate to earn a percentage of the sales and, the end-user who purchases, to benefit from products and services of qualities that respond to a latent or manifest need. I’ll give you a little spoiler: these advantageous conditions will not occur if you decide to sell or promote products of poor quality, unreliable, or, even worse, deceptive.

That’s why in this article I decided to talk to you about what to sell as an affiliate and what are the best products and services. Also, I will suggest which method to use to select them. You will be able to choose wisely what is worth selling in a strategic (but also ethical) way and not run into unpleasant consequences related to disreputable products.

Best products to sell: Choose by Category

First of all, a premise must be made: there is no right or wrong product to sell a priori, just as there is no magic product through which, regardless, you can immediately earn big dollars. The right strategy for everyone is a fairy tale not to be believed. These are legends or tricks used by scam gurus to sell you a course or give you some other “unmissable” offer.

So how do you decide what to sell? First, it is good practice to divide the products into categories. Based on your preference category, consistent with the niche you are targeting, you can identify, through specific searches, useful information on the products, you are most looking for. For example, by entering the keywords of your interest on SEMrush, SEOZoom, or, totally free, on Google Trends, you will find out in which geographical area these searches take place and which keywords are linked. Furthermore, nothing can replace direct observation: observe in the communities and groups related to your niche which are the most popular conversations, interact, connect the dots in relation to the needs and requests that appear most. Anyway, based on the most popular categories when it comes to affiliate marketing, we’ll see together the best products to sell.

Home automation

Each of us is trying to make our home as comfortable and practical as possible. Home automation is the sector dedicated to the application of new technologies inside buildings and domestic spaces. The ultimate goal of home automation is precisely to improve the quality of life thanks to the implementation of these technologies. Thanks to the evolution of technology and the concomitant lowering of prices (at least for some sectors, previously inaccessible), home automation products are in great demand. Among the options to be evaluated:

  • Smart speakers and audio devices of various kinds;
  • Tools for lighting environments or for their heating/cooling;
  • Robots for the hygiene and cleaning of domestic environments;
  • Kitchen devices integrated with apps for smartphones and tablets (the “smart” planetary machines);
  • Home security systems.

Smart working management tools

To better deal with smart working, people are equipping themselves, purchasing both furnishing accessories and software tools. From ergonomic chairs to spend the many hours spent in front of the computer, to software for managing work projects. Each work activity will then have its own specific preferences according to the tasks assigned.

Gaming

The explosion of Youtube channels dedicated to gaming, together with the exponential growth of Twitch – the platform dedicated mainly to gamers, has meant that the world of gaming and all this that concerns it underwent an even more incisive surge in popularity, but also in sales.

That’s why gaming-related products and services are suitable for affiliate sales. I’m not just talking about consoles and games, but about everything that can improve the gaming experience and immersion within virtual worlds. Smart TVs and monitors, wireless headphones with microphones for communication with other gamers, wireless keyboards, and mice, but also ergonomic chairs because, even in this case, gamers spend many hours in front of the screens. Last but not least, virtual reality (VR) viewers dedicated to gaming and entertainment (and who knows, maybe even training?), Products that are experiencing a real boom in sales.

Smartphone accessories

It is a fact that each of us is increasingly “connected” with our smartphones. The phone (but often also the tablet) never leaves us and therefore, assuming that it must be specific, high quality, and technologically advanced products, everything related to the world of smartphones has interesting sales potential. What is the problem users complain about the most? Surely the battery life always runs out “too soon”. So all the devices that deal with improving the performance of our smartphone are to be taken into consideration, such as, for example, the wireless charger covers. Other products to consider are earphones and wireless speakers that use Bluetooth, to listen to music or our favorite podcast both through headphones and through speakers.

Accessories for making videos

Thanks to the relocation of work, but also the success of the video format that now predominates in numerous communication platforms, the equipment to improve the quality of video calls and also to produce videos to share is among the products to be sold in affiliation. It is not just about cameras (since it is now possible to make high-quality movies even via your smartphone), but about those that are the tools to set up a functional set. From the lights (or even the ring right) to the microphone (clip or condenser), from camera tripods or, precisely, for smartphones, to software dedicated to video editing.

Sports clothing and accessories

The clothing and fashion category enjoys an interesting position. Consistent with the lifestyle we have talked about so far, therefore, with smart working and all that this entails, clothing to stay at home comfortably and feel comfortable deserves special attention. Also on this wavelength, the home becomes the place where, in addition to work, sports activities are also carried out and it is here that we find other products to sell in affiliation. In addition to sportswear, it is necessary to evaluate the equipment for practicing sports, such as:

  • Weights and dumbbells of various sizes;
  • Elastic bands for fitness;
  • Fitball;
  • Mats for yoga, pilates, and postural gymnastics.

Or, sports equipment, such as:

  • Footboards;
  • Tapis Roulant;
  • Exercise bike.

Beauty and self-care

Beauty, self-care, and personal care are sectors whose products, always if they meet high-quality standards, are the most popular. Of course, it is a very competitive sector, in fact, in order to convey the sale of these products, it is necessary to set up a strategy that aims to produce valuable content able to stand out from the crowd and respond specifically to the needs of the people who follow you. So, in this case, the rule of specializing in a particular sector and becoming a niche leader or, if we want, even a micro-niche leader, applies more than ever. From products related to skin-care to make-up, crossing other specific sectors, such as those related to eco-bio. The possibilities are not lacking, you need to find your own space and stand out for what you offer.

Food and culinary products

Among television broadcasts dedicated to cooking, chefs and celebrities who are personally dedicated not only to the management of restaurants, but to the promotion of the products themselves, blogs dedicated to all sorts of culinary sectors (such as vegetarian, vegan, raw food etc. ), it’s no wonder that food, kitchen utensils and everything else that gravitates around this world is potentially great to sell as an affiliate. If you are in the culinary field both for work and as a hobby, consider these products.

Infoproducts

Selling infoproducts in affiliation is a good opportunity, especially since it does not require large initial investments, since being you the expert, you will create your infoproduct yourself and then promote it. This could be:

  • E-book;
  • Specialized guides;
  • Video-courses;
  • Webinars and seminars.

The topics should be a cross between your skills and what interests your audience. What matters most is that your information products meet high quality standards.

Direct affiliation vs Indirect affiliation: which one to choose?

There is no correct answer to this question:

“Is it better to sell directly or through an affiliate network?”

It depends, you have to decide on a case-by-case basis. There are certainly advantages and disadvantages for both options, for example, if you decide to become a partner of a network, after approval, you will have to follow the established rules for the promotion of products. The point is that, as with any strategic action, you need to know in-depth:

  • Product or service to sell;
  • Reference target;
  • Affiliate platform.

On a practical level, to make you understand better: eBay Partner Network is a platform often used by collectors, therefore, if you decide to sell collectible products, it could prove to be the best choice. There are no right choices regardless, we need study, continuous practice, tests, and, of course, constant improvement based on the results achieved. Among other things, if you were to use affiliate programs such as that of Amazon, AliExpress, or eBay Partner Network, remember to consult the lists containing the best-selling products for each platform.

Ethics, consistency, and strategy: the priority is your niche

Surely researching the trends and the best products to sell based on the reference category will help you increase performance. However, I will never tire of repeating that ethics, consistency, and the will to sincerely help those who follow you are what will allow you to establish long-term relationships based on trust, in the long run, will contribute to creating the best asset. Remember:

  • Promote products and services that you know, have tested, and above all, have satisfied you;
  • Don’t get caught up in a rush and don’t give in to the temptations of scam products that promise (false) miraculous earnings in a short time;
  • Sponsor products and services in line with your values, consistent with your brand, and suitable for your niche;
  • Do not promote anything that is proposed to you, just for the fun of it, thus risking to seem like a know-it-all without specific skills. Specialize and then, subsequently, expand your range of action.

Having reached the end of this article, I hope not only to have given you ideas on products to sell as an affiliate but above all on how to choose and promote them in the best possible way. I hope I was able to help you and please feel free to share this article with friends.

Doing effective keyword research is the first step to creating a successful blog, increasing traffic and conversions.

By doing keyword research, in fact, you will be able to intercept the topics and words that are used by users to find the topics you cover in your blog, so you can create content that is more in line with the needs of your audience.

If you want to create a blog and therefore want to get a high volume of readers, you must first learn how to perform a keyword search.

And this is exactly what we will talk about in this article. I will explain what exactly a keyword search is, the differences between the various keywords, how to find out the keywords for which your competitors are positioned, and all the best tools you will need for your keyword research.

What is keyword search?

Keyword research is an SEO technique through which the main search terms on a certain topic are searched and typed on the main search engines, such as Google.

Through keyword research, you can go to not only find new content for your blog, but also understand what are the best topics you should cover to attract new customers and increase your blog traffic.

Effective keyword research answers some crucial questions, such as:

  • What are the most searched topics in your niche?
  • How many people are looking for these keywords?
  • What are the related topics (and therefore, the related keywords)?
  • What are the keywords used by your competitors?

Through keyword research you will be able to create the best content for your blog, intercepting the questions your audience asks to provide them with the best answer.

Why is keyword research so important?

One of the skills of an SEO Copywriter is also SEO, or optimization for search engines.

SEO is a set of techniques and strategies that are used to position the contents of a blog or website in the highest positions in Google search results. In fact, the higher your content in the Google SERP, the greater the chance that users will visit your website.

The blog statistics speak for themselves: keyword research still remains the cornerstone of any blog editorial strategy.

The reasons?

  • 92.04% of total organic traffic comes from Google
  • 95% of users stop at Google’s first page results
  • Almost 50% of all clicks in Google’s search results are made on the top 3 search results.

The keyword research is therefore essential to find the best keywords to develop in the blog and position them in the first Google search results, so as to obtain the most user clicks.

But how is keyword research done?

Keyword research: how to get started

To create an editorial plan where to group the topics you will develop on your blog, it is important first of all to find out what people in your niche are looking for when they search on Google about the topic you want to cover.

Before starting the actual keyword research, it is therefore important to start drawing up a list of “basic” topics for your blog. Don’t pay too much attention to the form in this step but let it be a kind of brainstorming.

These basic topics are those that will form the categories of the blog, the main topics to be developed. Focus specifically on the products or services you offer or intend to offer.

For example, if you have a yoga site, these macro-categories could be:

  • Meditation
  • Practice of yoga
  • Yoga lifestyle
  • Yoga course.

Once you’ve found the main categories, it’s time to delve into them by looking for the terms your audience uses to describe your products or services.

There are several ways you can do this research. The first is undoubtedly to search in blogs, forums (such as Quora), or Facebook groups which are the most frequently asked questions.

The second way is to use SEO tools that allow you to further deepen your searches, giving you results also in terms of the number of searches.

There are numerous tools you can use for this search, such as:

We will talk more about this in a moment.

Another very useful thing you can do to understand which are the best keywords you can develop is to check which keywords your competitors are ranking for.

You can do this simply with SEMRush (even with the free plan).

In fact, you just need to go to the side menu> Domain analysis> Organic search and you will be able to find out which are the main keywords for which the competitor sites are ranking and any other competitor blogs you can analyze.

Upon completion of this research, you will have numerous keywords and ideas that you can use. Now is the time to optimize our keyword list.

Longtail Keywords

After doing the preliminary research, you probably used the SEO tools I recommended to also check the search volume of each keyword, i.e. the number of people who search for that keyword on Google.

The instinctive thing would be to choose the keywords with the highest search volume. In fact, more people searching means more clicks on our blog, right?

But no, that’s not exactly the case.

An important fact that we must look at, in fact, is the keyword difficulty, that is the difficulty that a keyword has in positioning itself, based on the competition.

Let’s go back to our yoga blog. The dry keyword “yoga” certainly has a very high search volume. But it also has very high competition and therefore a high keyword difficulty.

This means that you will hardly be able to position yourself in the first search results, overtaking giants such as Wikipedia, especially if your blog is still young.

The solution, therefore, is to focus on what are called longtail keywords.

These keywords are made up of 3-5 words and, as also reported by Hubspot, keywords of more than 4 words represent 50% of all searches that are done on Google.

Very often, in fact, people use conversational queries, ie keywords that represent a question, a bit as if users “conversed” with Google.

Users are in fact more likely to search for phrases such as “How can I …” rather than looking for the dry keyword.

These keywords, therefore, have lower search volumes but less competition and it is, therefore, easier to be able to position themselves in the first search results.

The best keywords to work on, especially at the beginning, are therefore those that have:

  • high search volumes
  • low competition

Features that you can control with the tools I mentioned earlier, such as Semrush.

Being able to intercept and exploit these keywords is not only one of the best ways to be able to rank well on Google in a short time but it is also easier to convert visitors and monetize your blog since you are giving them exactly what they are looking for.

There are a number of tools you can use to find long-string keywords, such as Semrush, and Answer the Public.

With Answer the Public, for example, you just need to enter a word or two to get all the linked longtail keywords.

How to analyze your competitor’s keywords

As we have mentioned, analyzing the keywords of competitors is an excellent strategy to know not only which keywords they are positioning for but also to get useful insights on what interests your audience.

Your aim must be to be able to create content that bypasses all the competitors that are positioned in the first search results.

There are mainly 3 ways to analyze competitors:

  1. Analyze the keywords and the best-positioned articles
  2. Get a list of keyword gaps
  3. Analyze the top search results on Google.

All of this can be done through SemRush.

Semrush is a paid SEO tool but you can use it with limited functions even for free. As for these features, you can use the free version without any problems.

Then create an account on SEMRush and follow the next steps to analyze your competitors.

1. Analyze the keywords and the best-positioned articles

Once you have created a free account on Semrush, we can proceed to see which are the best-positioned articles and keywords of your competitors.

Enter the main dashboard and in the left menu select Domain Analysis> Organic Search.

Now enter the URL of your first competitor and start the search.

This research gives you a lot of useful insights, such as:

  • Traffic data
  • The main organic keywords
  • The main changes in the position of keywords in the Google SERP
  • The features of the SERP
  • The main pages that have positioned themselves
  • The main subdomains
  • The main organic competitors
  • The competitive positioning map.

This is a great starting point for doing effective keyword research.

2. Get a list of keyword gaps

Another interesting feature of Semrush that you can use for your keyword research is the Keyword Gap tool, which allows you to compare your blog with those of your competition, in order to find out which keywords they have covered on your site or in a specific article but which are not yet present on your blog or in your article.

This way you can check their content and create better articles so that you can outperform your competitors in the Google SERP.

To use this tool, log into your Semrush dashboard and in the left menu choose Domain Analysis> Keyword Gap.

Then enter your URL, those of your competitors and launch the search.

3. Analyze the top search results on Google

Articles need to be relevant to both your readers and Google. And another way to find out which topics Google prefers is to ask Google.

Type the keyword in the Google search bar and analyze the top 10 search results. These are your main competitors for that keyword and if they are positioned on the first page of Google, it means that Google liked that content.

Then open all the first 10 results, try to analyze the contents, and understand what structure and what format you should give to your article. Are they long or short articles? What are they focused on? Do they contain infographics, videos, images?

This will give you valuable information on what you should focus on most.

Generally, however, the more you search for keywords, the more you will understand how to respond to the search intent of your audience. But what exactly is meant by research intent? Let’s see it together.

Understanding research intent

Even more important than keyword research is understanding your audience’s search intent.

The more your articles answer the questions people ask on the web, the more your content will be appreciated by your audience.

Think about when you do a Google search. Surely you don’t always do it for the same reason. Sometimes, in fact, you are looking for information on how to plant basil, or you are looking for reviews on a product to buy or you are looking for an online shop because you buy something specific.

This ultimate goal is called search intent.

There are 3 main research aims:

  • Navigational search is when the user already knows the name of the product or brand he is looking for. An example of a navigational search is for example “IKEA furniture” or “Facebook”.
  • Informational searches, i.e. those that are done to search for information that we do not know and are usually performed to find things like tutorials, tips, advice, solutions. An example is “how to create a blog” or “how to make pizza at home”. This is usually the main search intent a blog responds to.
  • Transactional searches, ie those aimed at a specific action, usually a purchase, such as “MacBook Pro sale” or “house for rent in San Diego”.

Once again, Semrush comes to our aid in this case as well, automating the results and offering an overview of the main results for a given keyword.

To do this, go back to your Semrush dashboard, and in the left menu choose Keyword Analysis> Keyword Magic Tool and enter the keyword you want to analyze.

From here you can get a general overview of the related keywords and the questions that are asked on a given topic.

Google boxes can also help you with this search, for example by checking what people are asking for and related searches.

What keywords does your blog already rank for?

If you already have a blog, you can use some tools to understand which keywords your blog is already ranked for and with which keywords your readers are finding your website.

To do this, you can use SEO tools such as Semrush or SEOZoom or through the Google Search Console.

On the Search Console, you just need to go to Performance and in the box below you can see:

  • all the keywords through which people found your blog
  • the relative impressions (i.e. how many have viewed the link to your blog)
  • how many actually clicked on the link
  • the ratio between impressions and clicks (CTR, i.e. click to rate)
  • the SERP position of that keyword.

Conclusion

Keyword research is the basis of a strategically structured editorial plan and, consequently, is the basis of every successful blog.

Through keyword research, you can ensure that you always create top-notch content, which answers your audience’s questions, in order to increase traffic and conversions on your website.

One last tip before saying goodbye.

When doing keyword research, don’t stop at the numbers. Percentages, search volumes, traffic …

Remember that when you write, you don’t do it for numbers – you do it for people.

So try to understand your audience ever more deeply, listen to their questions, doubts, and fears and try to offer concrete answers and solutions.

Find new topics that people want to read but other blogs don’t offer. Keyword research is just a stepping stone.

Stay safe and stay tuned!
